What is autonomous robotic ultrasound?

Autonomous robotic ultrasound is an approach to diagnostic imaging in which a robotic system, rather than a human sonographer, physically performs the ultrasound scan. A collaborative robot arm holds the ultrasound probe, uses cameras and depth sensing to locate the patient and the target anatomy, and moves the probe across the body along a planned path while continuously controlling contact force. Software keeps the probe at a safe pressure and correct angle, captures the standardized views the scan protocol requires, and sends the finished study to the hospital's existing imaging systems for a clinician to read and interpret. The goal of autonomous robotic ultrasound is consistency and access: every exam follows the same complete protocol regardless of who is on site, so hospitals and clinics can offer diagnostic ultrasound at times and in places where no trained sonographer is available. Aroo One is aroo lab's implementation of this approach.

What is Aroo One?

Aroo One is an autonomous robotic ultrasound system. A collaborative robot positions and moves the ultrasound probe to capture a complete, standardized exam, so the mechanical part of scanning can be done without a sonographer at the bedside.

Does it replace a sonographer or radiologist?

No. Aroo One automates image acquisition, the physical scanning step. A qualified specialist still reviews and interprets the images. The aim is to bring standardized scans to places where trained sonographers are not available, not to remove clinical judgment.

Who interprets the scans?

A licensed clinician or radiologist. Aroo One captures the study; diagnosis stays with a qualified specialist, who can be located anywhere.

How does autonomous ultrasound work?

Aroo One combines a collaborative robot arm, depth sensing, and imaging feedback to find the scan region, position the probe with controlled contact and angle, and follow a standardized scan path, capturing the views a protocol calls for.

Who is it designed for?

Health systems: hospitals, clinics, and settings where access to trained sonographers is limited. It is not currently offered for purchase.
